There’s something undeniably romantic about the thought of getting married in a forest. Trees swaying lightly in the fragrant breeze, birds singing merrily, and the sun shining through the cracks in the canopy make for the most magical of weddings. Not only does a forest themed wedding ensure beautiful photos, it also gives you and your guests a peaceful escape from city life to pause, take in some fresh air, and celebrate love in a naturally beautiful, serene environment.

Burnout is a real thing in the Silicon Valley. Competition is high, workdays are unfathomably long, and staring at a computer screen all day can be exhausting. You know this, and your employees know this, but the busy, fast-paced nature of the tech industry seldom gives employees the opportunity to take time away from the office to recharge. Humans are not like computers—being plugged in day in and day out can actually drain our energy.Continue Reading

Your wedding meal is about so much more than just the food. It’s a token of appreciation for your guests, and it’s a symbol of love—for family and friends who are in attendance and of course, love between you and your partner. Author Alan D Wolfelt writes that “food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate.” This rings especially true on your wedding day—a day when words so often fall short—when a delicious meal shared with loved ones speaks volumes.Continue Reading

A true retreat is more than just time set aside; it’s a refuge in which you can be vulnerable in your spiritual practice, one that opens the door for reflection and awe. A place of sacred harmony, removed from life’s common distractions, revives your connection with your spirituality—not just during the time away, but even as you step back into your normal routines. Your choice of where to hold your church retreat is as important as what you plan to do there because every experience will be held by the space. As you find clarity around your ideal program, keep in mind the space and the practical details that will make it possible.Continue Reading

Looking forward to a yoga retreat means something very different for organizers than it does to retreat guests. If you’re putting together a yoga and wellness retreat, your yogis’ expectations are at the front of your mind, and this journey has the potential to be more stressful than it is stress-relieving for you. Or not.
Where you decide to hold your retreat will underlie your guests’ every experience—and your own. Some venues will make your job harder, and some will make it easier. But so what if you’re stressed; it’s not about you, right? Of course, it’s about you! Your students will sense the tension in your voice, feel it as you give adjustments during classes, and absorb it as you spend days together immersed in what was meant to be an expansive, relaxing getaway.Continue Reading

I asked my mom what kind of special thing we could do for her for Mother’s Day this year. She responded, modestly, “I just want everyone to be together.” That didn’t give me a lot to go on, but I don’t think I could have really expected anything more specific—this response reflects who she is and what she wants perfectly and authentically. Luckily, we have a lot of family in and around the Bay Area, so it will work well to focus a Mother’s Day celebration around the idea of togetherness.Continue Reading

Why do we preserve our wild, natural lands? Certainly for the earth’s own sake, but also because these places help us stay connected to our natural spirituality. Especially in a digital world, we need reminders of the beauty that exists without striving. When we’re with the ancient redwoods, the ocean’s mysteries, and even the living sky, we can connect with their divine essence and purpose—and be reminded of our own.
Retreats help to fill us with these reminders, and centers throughout Northern California are particularly inspiring because they rest in spaces undeveloped—allowed to thrive in harmony. You can find a diverse range of brilliant landscapes all readily accessible, from temperate forest to windy beach to sunny or snow-capped mountains. As you plan your event, let the natural setting be one of your retreat leaders. Here are some activity ideas to help your group connect with a few of Northern California’s most beautiful organic features.Continue Reading

Your company is as strong as the individuals who operate it every day. I won’t say “only as strong,” because I like to think that there is no limit to how far we as individuals and as teams can advance. But it’s easy to get comfortable in our routines and forget that the company will grow only when our employees have real opportunities to stretch beyond their comfort zones and to reconnect purposefully to personal and collective goals.
So consider following the lead of some of the most successful companies in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, and LA by planning an immersive retreat to reinvigorate your team. You don’t even have to go far from the office: there is a vast range of California retreat centers and other peaceful locations that will give your team a break and put them in a position of recalibration and expansion.Continue Reading
